If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve been reflecting on your career journey (and possibly going around in circles). If you’re not 100% satisfied with where you are, maybe it’s time to stop thinking about a career change and start taking action.
The big question is: do you have the resources to make it happen? And no, I don’t mean financial resources. I’m talking about your mindset resources. This is where you get to release your inner HERO:
H – Hope
Every successful career change starts with a goal. Even if you don’t know the exact job title or dream company, you can define the criteria for your career success. Be specific, but also make it exciting—your goal should make you want to jump out of bed (without hitting snooze three times). Then break it down into small, achievable first steps.
E – Efficacy
A fancy word for confidence. Self-doubt will whisper things like, “I don’t have enough experience” or “Interviews make me sweat.” The antidote? Speak to people who’ve been there, done that (like some of my former clients), and probably panicked in the same way. Borrow their belief until yours grows.
R – Resilience
No career path is bump-free. Obstacles are part of the ride. The difference between those who succeed and those who give up is the ability to get knocked down, brush off the dust, and keep moving forward (preferably with coffee in hand).
O – Optimism
A growth mindset keeps you open to possibilities. Remember a time when one door slammed shut—only to lead you somewhere better? That’s optimism in action. Trust that your career change might just open the doors you didn’t even know existed.
As Viktor Frankl said: “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances.”
Ready to Take the Next Step?
A career change doesn’t have to feel overwhelming—you just need the right mindset (and maybe a cheerleader or two along the way). And if you want to connect with any of my former clients to see how they’ve done it, please let me know.
