New beginningsDo Not Be Afraid of Change!

If you are having feelings of uncertainty, unfulfillment or misery regarding your current position then it is certainly time for a career change. Likely, the global pandemic shed some serious light on your dissatisfaction with your job, or maybe you experienced significant changes within the position that have changed your feelings toward the job altogether. If you have doubts about your current job but are also nervous about leaving, do not feel like you are alone. Uncertainty surrounding career change is common, but it should not be the anchor to a position that has you dreading every working day. Fear of change is just fear of the unknown, but knowing how to tackle this change will help boost your confidence in this endeavor!

Seek Career Coaching

All too often individuals will pursue a degree plan at a University, or enter a specific line of work because of societal expectations or family members viewing it as a prestigious position. What many individuals do not realize is how important it is to evaluate all aspects of a career before pursuing it, instead of just considering the salary. Many factors come into play when it comes to job satisfaction, and typically those seeking a change in career are simply not aware of their options. Seeking career change consultation services with a career coach will make all the difference in your journey to finding fulfillment in your career. Career coaches have had specific training in identifying a client’s strengths, weaknesses and priorities; in addition to knowing which jobs align with one’s abilities and interests. Instead of trying to navigate through uncharted waters, it may be time to seek guidance from a professional!

Develop a Resume that Gives You the Best Shot at the Job!

You will find that the majority of hiring processes are conducted virtually. Applicants are submitting online job applications, electronically submitting resumes and cover letters, and sometimes the job interviews may be conducted through video chat depending on the specific situation. With technology being the backbone of these processes, now more than ever, more applicants are able to be considered for these positions. This brings the need for Applicant Tracking System (ATS) involvement during the hiring processes for most companies. ATS will weed through applications and resumes to ensure an applicant is qualified for the specific position by utilizing keywords indicated by the hiring manager. With this being said, it is wise to follow an ATS resume template when developing this document to ensure your resume adequately advocates for your abilities and lands your resume in the hands of the hiring manager.

In addition to ensuring your resume contains the right keywords for the position, you will need to ensure you are updating your employment and contact information on your resume. It is likely you have gained applicable experience and training that will be beneficial to list on your resume, or moved permanent addresses during your time in your current position. Also ensure that your resume is tailored to the position you are pursuing, because nothing indicates carelessness like submitting a resume outlining specific duties that do not fit the position. It is great to show your well-roundedness by listing all certifications and skills you have obtained, but double check that you have organized your resume to highlight the skill sets needed for the position.

Locating Job Opportunities

Once you have nailed down what career you would like to pursue you will know what aspects to look for when locating your next job. Likely the quickest and most effective way to find job vacancies is to utilize job search engines, such as These job search engines will take into consideration your location or where you want to find a job, what type of job you want, salary preferences, and more. Depending on the career field you may also need to check the employment sites for specific companies, such as checking the website for a hospital in your area if you are looking to pursue a job in the medical field.

Ace the Job Interview

Scheduling an interview is an exciting rush of feelings because you have made it to the last stage of the hiring process, until you are hit with the realization that you have to perform well in order to get the job. Instead of panicking, remember the key to succeeding this step is preparation. Prepare for a job interview by knowing how to advocate for your skills and abilities, show your enthusiasm for the position, and knowing how to navigate the tougher questions. Also remember to select your interview outfit and try it on ahead of time, just in case it does not fit, look as good as you remember, or has visible blemishes. Completing this step prior to the interview date will prevent a panicked rush before your meeting, or even attending with a tear in your suit jacket! Intentional preparation for your job interview will not only help you navigate this meeting with confidence, but will give the hiring manager confidence in choosing you for the position.

You are Worth the Investment

You are worth more than a job that does not bring fulfillment emotionally or monetarily, and are closer to achieving your next career than you realize. The global pandemic brought dynamic changes to everyone, and sometimes change is what it takes to show you that it is time to step out and do what is best for you. It is always a good time to take the steps to advance and invest in your situation, and hopefully this article has provided the guidance necessary to better your position.

What Our Clients Say...

Last night, we had the opportunity to have a good chat about things, and he was (I felt for the first time in a long time), upbeat about what he needs to think about and get done.

He showed me the test results which I think has given him a real confidence boost, as well as having consolidated a lot of things for him in his own mind.

And your post call summary has also had an effect, as he seems to be much more ‘in the zone’, giving him the impetus with a plan on how he gets things done.

Heartfelt thanks from me, his mum, as it has felt like quite a difficult time for all of us!

Mark is passionate about his work and very sensitive to the needs of his clients. I was lucky to work with Mark in the international surrounding where he shared knowledge and skills regarding career counselling with the group of youth workers coming from 8 European countries.

Through his work he challenged many limiting beliefs and helped me and others to realize our potentials in a better light and get ideas for helping others do the same.

I strongly recommend Mark for any challenging task since he proved to be flexible, process oriented but also having results in mind, and the most important of all, very positive and inspiring co-worker.
My daughter Lucie and I both gained a lot from your talk and found your approach to finding what the right path may be, very positive.

Thank you!
Before I contacted Mark, I didn't believe that I could pursue the career I really wanted but after a few sessions it began to feel that my dreams weren't so unrealistic after all.

By the end of the course, I had the confidence to make steps towards getting the job I always wanted.

Mark was our trainer in a 7 day International Training Course on topics of youth career guidance for youth workers from 8 countries. His work is amazing - aside from providing skills for our work, he helped us to think over our lives and things we want to do. This training course and his energy gave me a new wave of enthusiasm for both - working with youth and developing myself. I hope I will have the opportunity to work with him again.
I came to Mark to gain focus and direction as I was awash with ideas and not knowing which to follow. Mark guided me through exercises which systematically drew out my interests, skills and preferences. I am now in a position to drive forward on key ideas with clear goals on what I want to achieve and how I'll know when I have. Thanks Mark!

I had no clear idea of where I wanted my career to go, except that I didn’t want to carry on with what I was doing. Working with Mark has been instrumental in giving me the right questions, and gaining a good understanding of myself so that I could change direction. His sessions were well structured whilst giving sufficient freedom for different lines of enquiry. And it’s a long time since I enjoyed homework, but I really did relish the work he suggested between meetings. I would thoroughly recommend having Mark coach you through your career conundrums.

I worked with Mark during a time of huge personal transition. He gave me invaluable insight into myself, which has had a direct impact on the course of the last 6 months of my life. The coaching sessions I had with him prompted me to take action in the direction of the career and life I really want, rather than doing what I think I 'should' be doing to please other people or fit in. He also got me thinking very differently about the options available to me, which opened doors both in my mind and externally in the world. Mark has outstanding interpersonal skills, which really helped me be at ease and take risks to be completely honest in our sessions. I highly recommend him and his service.
