This is a great website if you’re a young person currently in education. It’s not the easiest of sites to navigate at first but there’s a handy video guide to help you to get going. You’ll need to register on the site first.
The website will help you to find the answers to the following questions:
- How might a university degree affect my future salary?
- What value would a degree bring to my future job prospects and employability?
- How would doing an apprenticeship affect my future salary and career prospects?
- What is the gender pay gap and what could its impact be on my salary and career prospects?
- Does where I live or go to university affect my future job prospects?
- How much is the cost of living in my area or the area I want to live?
Again, this is another site aimed at teenagers, but it’s actually useful for anyone who is considering a career change. Firstly you can search jobs by sector. This can help you to be aware of a range of potentially suitable jobs that you may not have considered. When you delve into specific jobs, you can find information on the different pathways to the job, the number of people who do the job by region and you can even look at current live vacancies in your selected region of the country. There may even be a video clip of someone who does the job talking about their role.
If you register on the site you can also upload a personal profile where you can add your skills and qualifications.
Glassdoor is a website where current and former employees anonymously review companies. Glassdoor also allows users to anonymously submit and view salaries as well as search and apply for jobs on its platform.
To get complete access you’ll need to contribute an anonymous inside look of your own - whether it's a company review, salary or interview review. Therefore it’s only suitable for those with work experience. But even if you’ve had a part time job at your local supermarket, you can add a review of your employer and then you’re good to go.
Finally, if you're keen to check out your suitablity for a particular job role, you can take an in depth psychometric assessment
