In the past couple of months I've lost a few pounds. Deliberately! I mean, my lifestlye is generally healthy and I exercise regularly but sweet food is my downfall. However, some minor changes to my diet has made a huge difference.
Why am I telling you this? Well, it emphasises the point that if you want to make major or minor changes it's about creating habits rather than setting specific goals. Don't get me wrong, goals can be great but when the goals are achieved it's all too easy to slip back into unhealthy habits. Good habits are sustainable and better still, even small habits can make huge differences.
Career satisfaction is achieved by incorporating healthy habits that can be absorbed in your day to day work and don't always require you to 'take time out' from your normal routine.
For the past few years I've been working with the Career Innovation Company. We run career development webinars for large companies, helping their employees to get the best out of their careers.
During these webinars we talk about the 7 future proofing skills that employees need to manage their careers in an ever changing landscape.
One of these habits is 'knowing yourself'. This is about recognising and being able to articulate your developing strengths, weaknesses, values and experiences to colleagues and stakeholders. It also includes getting regular feedback on what you do well.
So how confidently can you explain your interests, motivations and values to others?
So always be ready to tell your story because you never know where these often chance conversations could lead.
